Advantages of a human editor
Only a human editor can detect awkward phrasing and syntax (particularly if youʼre writing using a regional dialect). Only a human editor can tell whether youʼre using formal or informal language. Only a human editor knows the specific audience your writing is aimed at. Only a human editor knows about offensive terminology such as discriminatory language. Only a human editor can pick up bias. In short, AI editors cannot understand the subtleties of language.
Human editors bring a wealth of cultural understanding to their work, which AI cannot. They can adapt their work to the requirements of the writer, whether thatʼs words or phrases to avoid, the type of language being used or, with academic writing, what style (such as Harvard, MLA, APA, Chicago) to use.
