Which phrases should be hyphenated and which shouldn’t? A very common question for many people!
To help, any two-word phrase that describes a noun, as in is used as an adjective, should be hyphenated, unless the word ends in -ly.
For example:
- This is the best-looking piece in this display.
- She is the best-educated person here.
- That is a very water-hungry plant.
- The elderly looking woman wasn’t arrested.
